Join LARC
What does a LARC membership provide?
LARC is a nonprofit community rowing organization dedicated to providing a quality rowing experience for Masters rowers at a very reasonable cost. A membership is valuable for both competitive and recreational rowers.
Membership includes use of equipment, launches for coaching, and the opportunity to either join an existing crew or form your own crew based on boat availability. Our fleet includes 8+ and 4+ sweep boats. Those wishing to scull will need to participate in our sweep program for 6 months prior to being able to access the sculls. Those wishing to scull must pass a flip and skills test prior to to using sculling equipment. In addition, off the water, we schedule semi-regular social events to build camaraderie and friendships around a mutual interest in rowing.
Membership is open to experienced rowers over the age of 18.
How does the sweep program at LARC operate?
We offer sweep rowing with a fleet of three coxed 4's and four coxed 8's. Our club does not have a boathouse or facilities such as locker rooms, erg rooms, etc. We are simply a group of competitive and recreational masters rowers that store our seven sweep shells on the racks on the beach. There is a small beach bathroom near the boat racks. We do water launch as there is not a dock. Operation wise, we do things a bit differently than many other clubs. LARC has an individual captain for each crew that goes out. Each captain is responsible for creating lineups for their weekly row. This is not your traditional boathouse operation, but there are certainly benefits. Rowers are able to row with their preferred crews based on each rowers individual priorities. Once you become a new member, you will be added to a list of members that captains will contact to add to their boats. You will also be provided a boat schedule and captain contact info so that you can also contact captains directly. The club does not make any lineup for any boat.
How to join LARC?
New applicants must first join USRowing to be covered by insurance and must also sign our LARC Club Waiver and Consent forms. Experienced rowers (18 and older) can Join LARC at any time. If you are interested in exploring the club, we offer a week of free trial rowing.
If you are new to the sport of rowing, please visit our Learn to Row page.
How much does LARC cost?
All current LARC members are required to pay dues, as well as donate one volunteer hour per quarter. Coxswains automatically become members with no dues obligations. Membership dues can be paid on an annual, half year, or quarterly basis:
When can I row?
Our practices generally take place on weekdays from 5:00-6:00AM or 6:00-7:00AM and weekends from 6:00-7:30AM or 7:00-8:30AM. Sunset rows can also be scheduled in the summer months. Most crews row between two and four times per week, although rowers are welcome to row as often as they choose. Thanks to beautiful Southern California weather, LARC provides year-round rowing.
