Welcome to the LARC sweep rowing program.
Let’s start with safety first. LARC does not mandate that members be vaccinated, although most are. Our crews row without masks and there is assumed risk associated with participation in this group sport amidst the current pandemic. If you are uncomfortable with this risk you should consider alternate methods of activity at this time.
I would like to provide a bit of information about our club and how it is structured. LARC is a sweep rowing club with a fleet of three coxed 4's and four coxed 8's. Our club does not have a boathouse or facilities such as locker rooms, erg rooms, etc. We are simply a group of competitive and recreational masters rowers that store our seven shells on the racks on the beach. There is a small beach bathroom near the boat racks. We do launch from the water as there is not a dock.
Operation wise, we do things a bit differently than many other clubs. LARC has an individual captain for each crew that goes out. Each captain is responsible for creating lineups for their weekly row. The club has no employees such as coaches or coxswains Some boats rotate rowers in the coxswain seat and others have a dedicated volunteer coxswains with collegiate experience. A few crews hire outside freelance coaches and pass the cost on to the rowers. If you are invited to row with a crew that pays for freelance coaching the captain will notify you. This is not your traditional boathouse operation, but rowers enjoy the benefit of being able to row with your preferred crew based on your priorities. Once you become a new member, you will be added to a list of members that captains will contact to add to their boats. The club does not make any lineup for any boat. This said, you will have no problem getting in as many rows as you like.
As an experienced rower, you are eligible to take advantage of one week of free rowing with our club. Should you choose to become a permanent member after the free week, the fee is $120 per quarter.
Rows typically occur 5-6AM or 6-7AM on the weekdays and 6:00-7:30AM or 7-8:30AM on the weekends.
Please complete the form below to get started with your free week of rowing! If you have questions feel free to complete the Contact Form HERE or give us a call.
